Davison’s Homecoming Game 2018

DAVISON (DTV)-(9/28/2018)- It’s time for Homecoming and Davison students and teachers are getting pumped up for the events happening Friday night.  Starting at 5 is the annual homecoming parade. There will be performances by the marching band, dance team, pom team, and cheer team.  Cole Rutledge, our Homecoming King, will be making an appearance along with the rest of the royal court. Mr. Congeniality, Max Slezak , Jordan Button, Raymond Cole, and Whitman Hopper. The parade starts at the high school and continues down West Clark Street then down Main Street.

After the parade, kickoff is at 7:30pm as the Davison Cardinals take on the Flint Jaguars for the annual Homecoming game. Its $5 to get in, or free if you have a nest pass. During half time the marching band will perform, and then it’s the big moment everyone is waiting for! The crowning of the 2018 Homecoming Queen and Miss Congeniality.

If you can’t make it out tonight, DTV will be covering the parade and game from start to finish. Tune in to our charter channel 191 starting at 7pm.

DTV prepares for Davison’s first football game of the season

DAVISON(DTV) – (08/23/2018) – As the nights start getting cooler you can feel a buzz in the air here in Davison. It’s football time for the Cardinals! You can almost hear the crowd cheering, the announcer’s voice booming over the PA system, the sound of the snap as the Cards start heading down the field, and of course the cheer “D-A-V-I-S-O-N!”

DTV talks with Davison alum, Olympic gold medalist

 DAVISON (DTV) (05/18/2018) – You may not know the name Ken Morrow, but you should. In 1980, Morrow was part of the USA Olympic hockey team that defeated the Russian team 4-3 in the game known as the Miracle on Ice. Almost 40 years later, Morrow is still being recognized.

 “A day doesn’t go by in my life where someone doesn’t come up to me and want to talk about it.” said Morrow.

 The attention is not undeserved. That same year, Morrow won the Stanley Cup with the New York Islanders, making him the first person to ever win both an Olympic gold medal and a Stanley Cup in the same year. He won these career achievements in his first year, at the age of 23. 

“One of those would be a career achievement for somebody, and you know, I had them both happen in the same year” said Morrow.

Surprisingly, Morrow never thought that he would play professional hockey. 

“I didn’t have this goal of playing in the NHL or playing on an Olympic team. That all just kind of happened.” said Morrow.

He had a humble beginning playing hockey with his brother on their backyard rink in Davison.

What is Ken doing nowadays? For the past 38 years, he has worked faithfully for the New York Islanders, 25 of which he has been the director of pro-scouting with his team.

Team 3534 Heading to Worlds

Over 30,000 people from all over the world are gathered at Cobo center right now in Detroit for the FIRST robotics world championship.

Our Davison House of cards started a bit rough yesterday with scouting but made quick adjustments.

All the team’s and alliances are gathered here to fight it out to make it to the first elimination round.

Today our cards are currently 2 and 0 with there alliance and ranked 43 out of 68.

But rankings are constantly changing. The team will be participating in another match coming up soon.

All in all this is a great experience for the kids. These teams will be competing all weekend long so stay up to date on our Twitter page DTV_official for more updates.

Winter Sports Wrap-up

After a long season of wins and losses 6 Davison Made winter sports teams pushed themselves to their limits qualifying for some major titles.

The Boys and Girls Basketball teams both got to Regional’s after intense victories in Districts. The Girl’s won 52-37 against Lapeer in the first round, 71-49 to Saginaw High in the second, and finally 50-49 to Kearsley in the final round. They were unfortunately knocked out by Carman Ainsworth in Regional’s 63-44. In the first round of Districts the Boys took down Saginaw 77-58, Clio 83-42 in the second round and finally Saginaw Arthur Hill by one point 48-47 in the final round. Unfortunately they also lost to Carman Ainsworth in Regionals 72-48.

The Hockey team won 7-2 against Romeo in the Pre-Regional Finals, and Port Huron Northern 4-1 in the Regional Finals. This was not the end for the Hockey team though, they made it all the way to the Quarter Finals in Regional’s getting taken out by Birmingham Brother Rice by 1 point in overtime.

8 Wrestlers qualified for State Titles, more specifically Andrew Chambal and Alex Facundo placed as All State Champions in their Weight Class.

In Bowling, Bailey Gipson made it all the way to the Elite Eight for the Girl’s Team in the State, and the Boys won second place in State Finals accumulating 3,586 points. Brandon Kreiner placed 18th in the state, Bailey Gipson placed 15th and Callie Richardson-Fuller placed 19th.

Great job to all of our winter athletes for representing the Davison Cardinals! The spring season is just around the corner, and hopefully they can bring home some more wins for the Cards!

Lady Cards lose against Cavaliers in round one of regionals

DAVISON (DTV) (03/06/18) – The Lady Cardinals basketball team took on the Carman-Ainsworth Cavaliers Tuesday night.

Carman  dominated most of the game and won with a final score of 63 to 44.

They will now move on to the next round regionals.

DTV spoke with Coach Hitchcock and he told us  win or lose, the girls are champs in his eyes.

Several Davison senior athletes recently signed letters of intent.
They ceremony was hosted by the Davison Athletic Department at Davison High School Many people came out to show support and to congratulate the student athletes and their families. The athletes who signed letters of intent are as follows-

Morgan Deckrow will play Softball at Albion College

Gabe Ellis and Tariq Reid will both take their football skills to Grand Valley State University

Maria Vukaj will play Volleyball at SVSU

Taylor Minto signed to play golf at Siena Heights University

Gameday Basketball Special

This Thursday February 15th,  DTV will be hosting their GameDay special at the double header against Carman Ainsworth here at home. We will kick off the night with the girls game at 5:30. We will be broadcasting an ESPN style halftime show in between the girls and boys games. Then we will bring you all the action from the boys game along with a post wrap up show. State Finals at Ford Field

The Clarkston Wolves and the West Bloomfield Lakers face off at Ford Field for the division one state finals.The schools are not that far apart, about 20 minutes away from each other but they both meet up here in Detroit to battle it out For the division 1 state championship.  Both teams are coming into this game with a record of 10-2. They played against each other earlier this year and West BloomField blew Clarkston out 37-16. All the more reason for Clarkston to come looking for redemption.

The first quarter was a lot of going back and forth for each team, both were feeling each other out and trying to get a feel for the game.   It is a very defensive game that is pretty messy and all over the place.   But with a bad snap on a punt from Clarkston, the Lakers got a 2 point safety making the score 2-0 to Bloomfield. This game seems to be pretty unpredictable anything could happen and it could be anyone’s game.

Clarkston started the 2nd quarter with a vengeance coming right out of the gate with a interception by  Zach Scott .  He picked off Bryce Veasey’s pass in the end zone stopping a Bloomfield touchdown. Then Trevor King fumbled at the 44 yard line, for Bloomfield’s second turn over  of the half.   With seconds left in the first half, Clarkston nailed  in with a 30 yard field goal, set up by a complete pass by West Bloomfield’s Connor Heaton to. Then a roughing the passer penalty on Bloomfield. Ending the 2nd quarter with a score of 3-2 to Clarkston.

The Lakers started out the 3rd quarter in control of the ball. Pushing though but Clarkston’s defense blocking them from getting anywhere. Clarkston then gains control for a while then Bloomfield again, a lot of back and forth still. Both teams really counting on their defense not a lot of offensive plays.  A great play by  West Bloomfield’s Bryce Veasley with a pass complete to Taj Mustapha who ran 52 yards into Clarkston territory, but they were forced to punt.

 

Clarkston started the last quarter with the ball but west Bloomfield quickly got it back in their control, Clarkston getting a roughing the passer penalty after  Bryce Veasley  incomplete pass to AJ Abbott. With a great pass by Bryce Veasley  to James Faulkner to run 23 yards for a 4th down. And another great pass by Bryce Veasley to Taj Mustapha  who ran  9 yards for a West Bloomfeild first down . With 5 minutes left  in the game the score still has not moved. With a little over a minute left in the game Clarkston’s Tieler Houston interception to wrap up the game declaring Clarkston the Divison 1 champs with an ending score of 3 to 2.

 

Cardinals vs Cavaliers

The Cardinals take on the Carman Cavaliers Friday September 8th at cardinals stadium.  This game will be one of the biggest games so far.  The Cardinals record is 2-0.  The cardinals are looking to go 3-0 for the 2nd straight year, with the head coach Kyle Zimmerman returning to coach the game after a short suspension.  The Cavaliers are 1-1 after a heart breaking loss to Grand Blanc 51-46.  Last year Davison headed to the playoffs and are hoping they will have the chance to go again.  The Cardinals and the Cavaliers have had a lot of epic battles with the record being 6-6 over the last 10 years.  This is expected to be a big game so get there early.  The game starts at 7  pm and tickets are only $5.  If you can’t make it out tonight, you can always watch Dtv’s live broadcast on channel 191.

 

THE CARDINALS WIN AGAIN!  The third game of the year has been won by the Davison Cardinals with a score of 50 points while the Cavaliers sport a score of 13.  The first quarter took off with a great start as Cannon Hall secured the first touchdown of the game.  Running a whopping 55 yards down the field to the end zone, Davison earned 7 points.  But, the Cavaliers make a come back with their own 61 yard touchdown by Malik Bashir -Cager.  The game was at a tie until Davison made two more thrilling touchdowns by Austin Rowland, who did it with a fumble recovery in the end zone, and Gabe Ellis, who scored by making an interseption and running 33 yards.  The score in the first quarter resulted with Davison in the lead, 20 to 7.  The second quarter was even more exciting.  In the beginning, there were already 8 penalty’s called.  Plus a few players were injured on both teams, but that didn’t stop the Cardinals from scoring another touchdown.  Once again, Cannon Hall scored making it 26 to 7.  In addition, Tariq Reid gained the team two extra points.  Carman tried to comeback and made a great run down the field, but it just wasn’t enough.  The third quarter, the cardinals ran a great play.  A two point conversion made by Max Slezack and Tariq Reid boosted the score to 36-7.  And the points don’t stop there!  Again Tariq Reid ran 46 yards, amazingly dodging 3 to 4 tackles from Carman, and scoring yet another 7 points.  But then, Carman put up a really good fight and scored putting their team’s score at 13.  To end this event, one more touchdown was made by the Cardinals Lamar Hey.  The end score was 50 to 13.  A very excellent game it was and great job to all of these extraordinary athletes that played!  If you didn’t get the chance to watch the football game, Dtv will be replaying it all weekend on channel 191 at 12:30 and 7:30.
