DETROIT (DTV) – (11/26/23) – The press box smelled like popcorn and new paper. The stands were loud and full of Belleville and Southfield A&T fans alike. The sideline was bright and warm under Ford Fields stadium lights. Sunday night DTV was given the great opportunity from MHSAA to film highlights of the Division 1 Football Finals.
We began the hour-long road trip, stopping for dinner on the way to Detroit. Both vans of DTV members were bubbling with excitement to get to this game. Football finals are fun to watch themselves, but the feeling of being on the field with a camera is even better. Not to mention the view from the press box, where you can see the whole game and crowd from 7 stories up.
Trips like this connect us through our common love of sports broadcasting. Students got to record and edit highlights, announce the game, make social media posts, and write web articles (like this one!). All of this work is done right beside professional reporters.
“Even though Davison isn’t playing, I think It’s an amazing opportunity to be at Ford Field,” says junior Cooper Austin. “and I’m happy to do it with some of my best friends.”
At the end of Thanksgiving weekend, the students of DTV are very grateful to go to events like this. It brings us together and helps make the program feel like a family. We can’t wait for more trips like this in the future.
