DAVISON(DTV) – (5/6/26) – In an interview with Adison Hawley, the appreciation club president, she says, “Teachers do so much more than just like teaching, They do a lot of things that are above their pay grade and they’ll do stuff for the classes and they’ll help do stuff for certain sports and certain clubs and there’s so much that teachers put into that is sometimes overlooked.”
“I think making sure that communication isn’t a disciplinary thing so if you were to communicate a question you wouldn’t be met with, “why would you ask that, that’s such a stupid question?” you would be met with “Oh you’re confused let me explain” and I think that’s really important to keeping the classroom safe.” says DHS student Reghan Jones. Managing hundreds of kids and making sure everyone feels happy and safe in their environment while also being responsible for their education sure does seem like hard work! But Davison’s teachers pull it off!
A DHS freshman, Kaitlynn Locke says, “My favorite teacher is Mr. B Smith for health because he always brought a bunch of comfort for the class no matter what and he also brought happiness but could also be serious about topics. He always just felt like a dad figure to me.” And Mr. B Smith responds, “Sometimes these students can be a little challenging and a little much but I know they mean well and I still enjoy them but that’s probably the most challenging part about teaching.” and when asked how he feels about being Kaitlynn’s favorite teacher he answers, “I feel very honored and that means a lot to me. Kaitlynn was always a wonderful student and I just appreciated how she would smile and laugh and participate in class and I will always remember Kaitlynn and it means a lot to me that she thought of me like that”
When Jones was asked who her favorite teacher is she said Mr. Herriman because, “I think he is super good with each and everyone of his students no matter where you’re coming to him from I think he’ll always be there to help you out and always be there to be a friend for the day.”
In an interview with Mr. Herriman says that, “I think my favorite part about teaching is that moment when a student gets a little lightbulb where they’re trying to learn something and it finally clicks and they’re like, “I get it!” I love that moment, that’s probably one of my favorite parts about teaching” and when asked how Jones’s favorite teacher felt he states, “oooh, I like it a lot, she’s a sweetheart, I love her to death!” When you walk down the halls of Davison High School you can feel the love and support of the teachers. They show their appreciation and there are some ways students can show it back.
“So, a lot of the ways we like to think about showing teachers appreciation is doing things verbally, so, something we thought of for a fundraiser is “grams of gratitude” so just like expressing how much care you have for the teachers and the staff and even just showing your appreciation everyday in class, by paying attention and listening and even like little things like we try to focus on gifts but honestly a lot of its just like verbal.” Teacher appreciation is the first week of May so make sure to thank your teachers for everything they do.
