DAVISON (DTV) – (3/2/2020) – Our Davison-made wrestling team competed against nationally ranked 5th Detroit Catholic Central this weekend and we have the results.
Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo was buzzing all day as the division one match up was to be played: DCC vs. Davison.
The match went back and forth, each team trading points and pins. The atmosphere of the stadium was electric as the fans supported their teams.
This was continuing until the Alex Facundo match. He was dominating against rival Manny Rojas, until this move performed by Facundo where the referee ruled that this was an illegal slam.
After the play, Rojas stood and went back into wrestling position before the match was stopped by the DCC coach. An examination by trainers ruled that Rojas could not continue, which meant that Facundo was disqualified. This opened the door for DCC to get the points and secure another state championship as they win 34-23.
Davison wrestlers were stunned, but still walk away with another impressive season. The boys will seek some revenge at Ford Field this weekend as they fight in individual states.
There is still a question if Facundo will be allowed to wrestle in the individual state finals after his disqualification. We will bring you updates as they come in.
