Trump Comes To Dimondale

On August 19th, Donald Trump came to The Summit Sports Complex in Dimondale, Michigan. Trump was fresh off a plane after visiting the flooded cities of Louisiana. He spoke about the spirits of the people there and how the American nation never gives up. His famous line, “Make America great again” lead his campaign and the many new platforms he set that day.

While he was there reassured the crowd on his most controversial platform, his plans for immigration and building the wall. ” Our border will be protected, and our children will be safe, very very safe.” ” And we will build the wall, don’t worry about it. ” The crowd erupted in cheers as he continued on.

He also added in a new platform on African Americans, that he believed would relate to the Mid Michigan people, so close to Detroit. ” 58% of your youth is unemployed” He believes that this is the Democrats fault and spoke of how to fix it.

Stronger Together

Hillary Clinton came to Warren, MI in the Futuramic Tool warehouse to speak about her new economic plans for America. Her plans focus on working well for all Americans rather than those at the top. Clinton brings many points to relieve economic pressure from the middle class, she says its taken personally because she is “a product of the American middle class.”

Many of her points conclude to expanding opportunities for the middle and lower class such as, better school and water quality, affordable child care, all homes to have internet access by 2020, and public health insurance options. All these points to make all of America stronger as a whole.

Clinton also uses her plans as an opportunity to bring up Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump. Throughout the speech she compared her tax plan’s to trump’s. She say’s, ” his own advisers have said he may not stand by them.” In return she compares the two by saying,

” I am telling you what I will do, I’m laying out my plans and want you to hold me accountable for delivering results.”

On the topic of Trump, she takes time to address trade policy. She spoke of past trade deals to resonate with the people of Michigan and the loss of factory jobs. Clinton gives jobs a number one priority in the U.S. In fact, she believes overseas jobs need to comeback to America and will “stop any trade deal that kills jobs or holds down wages.”

Clinton came to a closing in her speech by mentioning she plans to bring everyone together in the white house, not only republicans and democrats but most importantly Americans. She left the stage with, “America is stronger together.”

DTV up for Two Student Emmys

DTV was recently inducted into the MIPA Hall of Fame and as exciting as that sounds, we here at DTV didn’t stop there. We submitted Undrinkable and a DTV Newscast, starring Jordyn Bruns, Dane Morgan, and Kaitlin Abdella to the NATAS Student Emmys. DTV rose above and won an Emmy for both Undrinkable and the Newscast.

Grant Polmanteer, Jordyn Bruns and Kaitlin Abdella were there to be awarded the major awards and also had a chance to meet and ask questions to some of Michigan’s best news anchors including, Nima Shaffe, Andrew Keller, and Meg McLeod.

DTV Control Room Dedication

During DTV’s formative years there were a couple things you could count on. One was total chaos behind the scenes, and the other was a dedicated group of students to help put out the fires and make incredible student television! Today we recognize a special group of students who dedicated themselves to growing this station and putting their heart and soul into everything they produced in DTV.

Five members of the Baker and the Hall families sat at the head of the DTV class from 2001-2011. Brett Baker, Nick Baker, Zach Hall, Ethan Hall, & Hannah Hall served as true leaders of the DTV class that went above and beyond the call of duty to help push the boundaries of student television, and set the tone for generations of students to come.

On any given day you could find Brett pushing buttons to make our way outdated Globecaster work, Zach Hall hustling to grab a camera to capture a breaking news fire, Ethan pounding away in the corner of the studio, working on editors that are way too slow, Nick laying the ground work and organizing everything from class rules to our Chyron System, and Hannah leading the way on DTV’s first two documentaries.

This is just the a small taste of what these students accomplished here. They were all true difference makers that helped us become what we are now! So today we dedicate our control room to the hard work and dedication of these students. From now on the control room in the DTV room will be known at the Baker/Hall Control room.

Thank you to these students and their supportive parents for the countless hours, and heart they put into our program. Without students like you DTV would be just another class, but you have truly made a difference by raising the bar for every DTV student that followed you!

Flint Water Civil Lawsuit

The latest lawsuit in the Flint Water Crisis, filed by Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, states that the transnational company Veolia and Texas corporation Lockwood, Andrews and Newnam (LAN) have not only stalled the progress towards ending the crisis, but made the situation worse. The state is suing both parties for potentially damaging the water, click here to see the story.

The Davison High School class of 2006 recently held their 10 year reunion at the Tenacity Brewing Company in Downtown Flint. Over 40 members of the class of ’06 and their families came together to remember the old times.

The Reunion was organized by DTV Legend Dan Durkin, and in Honor of the big event DTV is bringing back some of the old videos. As an unofficial preview to the upcoming DTV Throwback series we are releasing the 2006 Graduation, Prom Show, and Homecoming Parade. Miss Davison is on yet again! This years theme will be Miss Davison On Broadway. You can watch DTV’s live stream of the event tonight @ 7 click here to watch or on charter channel 191. Miss Davison is an opportunity for young women in their sophomore year and up to earn a scholarship. The first runner up will receive $500 and then second and third runners will receive $250. Have a GREAT Summer!

As the end of the year winds down, and final grades are being printed, we are reminded of the beginning of the year and all of the accomplishments that Davison Community Schools has made. Together DHS has earned a bronze medal for being among the best high school in Michigan, A spot on the 6th annual AP Honor roll, and had over 15 student athletes signed with colleges to play sports at the nest level. This has been a great year to be a Card! The nest has had two all state girls golfers, girls bowling took home another state championship and wrestling had a state title.

We are very proud of the 144 student athletes that received the SVL All- Academic recognition for having a GPA of 3.3 or higher while participating in a sport! You guys rock! DTV has had a great year as well! We released two documentaries on the Flint Water Crisis that gained media attention, and received two student Emmy’s for best newscast and documentary.

This year was also important to us because we officially became the first video program to be inducted into the MIPA high school journalism hall of fame! We couldn’t have done it without the overwhelming support of the community! Congratulations to the 2016 graduates! Have a great summer DHS! We will see you back here August 22nd for the beginning of the balanced calendar.

President Comes To Flint

President Obama came to Flint on May 4th, after receiving a letter from Little Miss Flint. This was a symbolic moment, reassuring the city that they are not alone, and that the government has their back. He followed up on the EPA and Snyder’s comments, saying the water was safe to drink with a filter, excluding those who are pregnant or under six years old.

Obama also went on to say that what happened in Flint was not by anyone’s intention to hurt the city, but instead stated that “part of what contributed to this crisis was a broader mindset, a bigger attitude, a corrosive attitude that exists in our politics and exists in too many levels of our government.

And it’s a mindset that believes that less government is the highest good no matter what.” Obama also spoke about fixing the infrastructure, in which the room he was speaking in was leaking by the minute. Before Obama took the stage at Northwestern High School, Governor Snyder did, the crowd being unwelcoming and booing him while he spoke.

This reason being the loss of trust in the state government and the fact that there is still no solution for the water. Along with Obama’s appearance one questions remains; where does the people of Flint’s trust now lie.

DTV Got Face To Face With Governor Snyder

DTV headed to Lansing as part of the CTE Showcase. Programs like DTV would have the chance to present themselves to politicians. Word got around to each booth that Governor Snyder was to appear, and was going to speak with as many programs as he could.

We had the opportunity to interview the Governor on the CTE Showcase, and the Flint Water Crisis. Monday, April 25th, DTV will release our second documentary on the Flint Water Crisis: Undrinkable 2: The Crisis Continues. Finally, after 2 half-hour documentaries, and months of constant breaking news, we got a one-on-one interview with Governor Snyder. He agreed to answer questions we had on the subject of the Flint Water Crisis.

We were given three minutes to get all the answers we’ve been craving. So, we asked about the announcement of the charges against three individuals involved, the State Government’s monetary contribution in contrast to the Federal Government’s, and if he was going to directly address the people of Flint in a public setting.
