DAVISON (DTV) – (09/19/2018) – Last night was the night for volleyball. Davison was neck and neck all night with Powers Catholic. During game 1 the team worked together well to bring the first game to a close with a defeat over the Powers Chargers, 25 to 20. With the roll around of the 2nd game Powers used their previous loss as fuel to get through this game, attacking the Cardinals with spikes taking that game away with 25 to 22. The Cardinals fought their battle with an intensity like none other but unfortunately couldn’t pull a victory through for the 3rd game as well as the fourth. Although in the last game they applied their biggest fight tying the game 3 times needing two points to win but Powers still ‘charged’ forth winning the final battle to end the game. Davison 1, Powers 3. It was a great night for the lady cards and we hope to see them push through the rest of the season! You can watch the game below.

Lyon is charged with involuntary manslaughter, willful neglect of duty and misconduct in office for the deaths of John Snyder and Robert Skidmore. Both men allegedly died from Legionnaires’ disease caused by Flint switching its drinking water source to the Flint River in 2014.

The girl’s lacrosse team has only been around at Davison for the last 4 years. To become a sport this spring they had to play as a club for 3 years, and be accepted by both Davison Community Schools and the MHSAA.
This year they played for the first time as an official sport and won two games against Flushing and team Holly Brandon. Ryley Wilcox dove deep into the team and how they made themselves who they are now.

State closes bottled water distribution sites permanently in Flint
FLINT (DTV) – (06/08/18) – On Monday April 10th, people lined up along Dort highway in Flint waiting to receive their final cases of free water after the state closed the distribution pods. The state’s decision to close the water pods was based on tests that said the water was well within federal standards. Even though the tests say the water is fine, some think differently.
“We matter! And so the state is responsible for cleaning up what they did. We don’t want them to do anything for us, but we are citizens, we pay taxes, and we are entitled for them to correct in totality the mistake that they made.” said Flint Councilwoman, Monica Galloway
The people of Flint are clearly stressed, and spoke out about the state’s decision, many still not believing that the water is safe to drink, since not all the pipes have been replaced.
Representatives from Michigan United, along with several activist groups, came together at a press conference on April 9th to help project the citizen’s anger, as well as voice their demands.
“Citizens demand the state reopen Flint water pods and maintain citywide distribution until water infrastructure updates are completed at least. Flint residents demand that the state include in its budget bottled water for residents, and comprehensive testing for all residents in Flint.” said Carly Hammond, a Michigan United Representative.
They also demanded Medicaid expansion to cover anyone who lived or worked in Flint since 2014, and an end to the Emergency Manager Law that caused the crisis.
“In spite of what they say where the lead levels were before, you did wrong! There was evidence of you doing wrong. So take us back to where we were before you did those things.’ said Galloway
They also expressed their distaste for the MDEQ’s contract with Nestle and demanded it be reversed, while calling for a boycott of all Nestle products. After appeals from the mayor and citizens, the water pods remain closed.
There are some areas in Flint that are continuing to help the people of Flint with bottled water.
Water from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan will be distributed through their help centers. You can find those by going here https://flintcares.com/helpcenters/
You can find more information on the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan’s website https://www.fbem.org/how-to-help/help-flint/
There are also three help centers at local Flint churches. Locations and service times are:
— Bethel United Methodist Church at 1309 N. Ballenger Highway, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays.
— Asbury United Methodist Church at 1653 Davison Road, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays.
— Greater Holy Temple COGIC at 6702 N. Dort Highway, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays.

DTV talks with Davison alum, Olympic gold medalist
DAVISON (DTV) (05/18/2018) – You may not know the name Ken Morrow, but you should. In 1980, Morrow was part of the USA Olympic hockey team that defeated the Russian team 4-3 in the game known as the Miracle on Ice. Almost 40 years later, Morrow is still being recognized.
“A day doesn’t go by in my life where someone doesn’t come up to me and want to talk about it.” said Morrow.
The attention is not undeserved. That same year, Morrow won the Stanley Cup with the New York Islanders, making him the first person to ever win both an Olympic gold medal and a Stanley Cup in the same year. He won these career achievements in his first year, at the age of 23.
“One of those would be a career achievement for somebody, and you know, I had them both happen in the same year” said Morrow.
Surprisingly, Morrow never thought that he would play professional hockey.
“I didn’t have this goal of playing in the NHL or playing on an Olympic team. That all just kind of happened.” said Morrow.
He had a humble beginning playing hockey with his brother on their backyard rink in Davison.
What is Ken doing nowadays? For the past 38 years, he has worked faithfully for the New York Islanders, 25 of which he has been the director of pro-scouting with his team.

DAVISON (DTV) (05/24/2018) – Wednesday, May 23rd was the last day for seniors at Davison High School. The seniors participated in a Davison tradition by taking a walk “back in time” through the halls of Thomson Elementary School. It was followed by several performances and a slideshow of memories in the DHS auditorium. Their presence is already missed, and the hallways seem much quieter.
Congratulations to all of our graduates! We wish you the best!
