Playoff Schedule Released; Davison To Play at 7-2 Romeo In 1st Round

DAVISON (DTV) – (10/27/19) – MHSAA recently released the playoff schedule for all high school teams in Michigan on their website.

In the first matchup, the Cards are going against the Bulldogs. These teams both have 7 wins and 2 losses. At the Romeo Football Stadium, these teams will face off on November 1st. Each of them are looking for a win which will lead them to districts.

The Grand Blanc Bobcats (5-4) and the Lapeer Lightning (8-1) will clash on Lapeer’s turf on this coming Friday. The winners of these two games will compete in districts to decide who goes on to regionals.

Saginaw Valley League (South) Championship on the line for the Cardinals

DAVISON (DTV) – (10/22/2019) – It’s the calm before storm. We are just days from Lightning fans entering Cardinal territory. It’s a rival match up of two teams who are 7-1, and Lapeer is the old stomping ground of Coach Weingartz. Trust us, this is a game you do not want to miss! Now, last year Lapeer beat us, but let’s prove that Lightning doesn’t strike twice.

Senior Cardinal football player Latrell Fordham was out for an injury the past two games but he says he’s eager to get back on the field.

MLive has included this game in a poll for the must-see game of the week. You can vote as many times as you want HERE. The poll will close at 9 a.m. on Friday.

We are expecting big crowds so be sure to pick up your tickets early. You can purchase them from the athletic office for $5 from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. until Thursday

If you can’t make it out to the game, we will be streaming the game live on Charter Channel 191 and on our YouTube page DTV News.

That is located at entrance #14 on the west side of the High School. Exact change is appreciated. Ticket gates will open at 5:30 p.m.on Friday, October 25, for the 7 p.m. game. Go Cards! 

Mott Community College Fair coming up

FLINT (DTV) – (10/22/19) – Annually, Mott Community College hosts one of the largest college fairs in the region. On Thursday, October 24th, anyone who is there can visit over 50 universities and colleges. They will present information in regards to their school, like educational opportunities and programs. This will be at Ballenger Field House, Main MCC Campus, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Marching Band wins big

DAVISON (DTV) – (10/21/19) – Our Davison Marching Band has been receiving medal after medal these past couple weeks. At Lapeer, on October 12th, they scored an overall score of 89.3. This earned them a solid 3rd place.
Troy Athens came in first and Holly in second. The goal for this year’s marching band is to score a 90, and they are well on their way to getting there  They were graded on their marching, music, guard and percussion.

The Band had another shot on the 19th in which they faced at Brandon High School. They did improve, but only to an 89.7, gaining them 3rd place, again.

All in all, they earned themselves an impressive B+, just 3 tenths off of that A-.

This was their last competition this season, which means that they didn’t reach their goal. Although, they had back-to-back 3rd places which is outstanding.

Introducing Mr. Ruterbusch’s book talks

DAVISON (DTV) – (10/14/19) – The librarian here at Davison High School, Mr. Ruterbusch, is here to talk about, you guessed it, books. He talks about some fascinating novels like The Cobra in the Barn and Doctor Who FAQ. “There’s a book for everyone!”, he exclaims.

Mr.Ruterbusch also teaches you how to check out a book at the library.

Homecoming 2019 Wrap-Up

DAVISON (DTV) – (10/07/19) – Homecoming 2019 was a major success for the community all around. From the football game to the annual dance, there was something for everyone.

MONDAY: Students mix n’ matched their outfits they wore to school.

TUESDAY: Favorite band/singer tees were worn by students at DHS. Also, students gathered at the auditorium to watch the awesome dance team, pom team, cheer team, baton, and varsity choir perform in front of their peers. Funny skits were shown as well.

WEDNESDAY: This was the day for students to dress as the decade they were assigned. The annual Powderpuff game took place with Homecoming King and Mr. Congeniality was announced. Our own Riley Wilcox won Mr. Congeniality while Latrell Fordham won Homecoming King.

THURSDAY:  On Thursday, students were asked to wear their class T-shirts

FRIDAY: And on Friday, marron and gold clothing was worn in support of the football game coming later that night. Our Davison Cardinals won by a landslide against Grand Ledge, winning 63-21. Homecoming Queen was announced as Tia France and Miss Congeniality was also, our own, Rebekah Allen.

SATURDAY: The dance at the DHS gym was a fun time as well.

Seniors defeat Juniors in Powder-puff 2019

DAVISON (DTV) – (10/2/19) – Wednesday night the junior and senior powder puff teams took the field, and the reigning champions, the class of 2020, pulled out another win.

After beating the class of 2019 last year, they were looking to make it back to back against the newcomers, the class of 2021.

The Seniors came out to the Cardinal Stadium ready to pounce on the Juniors. Cassie Allard showed that with a touchdown in the middle of the 1st quarter making the score 6-0.

The Juniors struck back with a touchdown of their own just a minute after scored by Paige Anderson, 6-6.

It was stale for the rest of the game until OT came around.

The Juniors came out with a field goal leading the Seniors by 3.

Finally, Kiera Kusinski won the game for the Seniors with a nice catch, making the final score be 12-9. It was a hard-fought battle for both sides and a great game to watch.

Community service hours up for grabs

DAVISON (DTV) – (10/3/19) – Here are some great opportunities for community service hours!

Girl Talk is looking for Davison High School girls to mentor 5th-8th graders during their after school program at Hahn Intermediate. They meet every Wednesday. High School students will receive community service hours for participating. The after school program covers a wide range of topics, including diversity & inclusion, body image, relationships, and digital citizenship. This year Girl Talk is focusing on Women in STEM for their guest speakers and working with the elderly for community service projects. The Davison Township Parks & Rec  needs more volunteers for these events:

Friendly Forest Special Needs Event on October 24th
Howl-ween Party on October 29th
Hero Trail Run on November 11th

Also, the Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) is also seeking volunteers! Located at the Hurley Medical Center, HELP is a caring program for hospitalized older patients.

The first step in signing up for this is registering online and attending a volunteer orientation which is held monthly. Online applications can be located on their website.

Undefeated match up: Davison Cardinals take on Grand Blanc Bobcats

DAVISON (DTV) – (09/26/19) – Friday night is shaping to be nothing short of exhilarating. The DHS student council is hosting a tailgate for fans in cardinal country. It starts at 5 p.m. in the parent drop-off loop in front of the main entrance of the high school.

The head to head match between our Cardinals and the Bobcats kicks off to a roaring start at 7:00 p.m. The Grand Blanc Bobcats are hungry and ready to pounce on the cardinal’s impressive streak.  No matter what happens tomorrow, one of these two teams will be heading home with their first loss.

DCS is going gold for this game to raise awareness for childhood cancer. If you need a shirt, Hilton Screeners in downtown Davison, has special Gold out T-shirts. They are $12 and only take 5 minutes to make. They can be purchased up until 6:00 p.m. Friday.
