DAVISON (DTV) – (1/31/22) – Winter sports have been in full swing for a minute now, with most of our athletes hitting the halfway points of the season.
Let’s dive into another lovely week of winter athletics.
With the impending snowstorm, these contests may be subject to rescheduling, so stay tuned for any cancellations.
Tuesday
Monday was void of any varsity athletics, but Tuesday had something to say about that.
The girl’s basketball squad is heading out in the early evening to Cavalier territory, taking on Carman Ainsworth at 5:30. The last time these squads faced off, it ended in a lower scoring win for the Lady Cards, with a final of 36-29 in the home stretch of last season.
The boys swim team will be out for their first meet in a 3-day span, heading to the Midland pools for a 6 pm meet. Let’s hope Dow hooked them up with the right chemicals to keep everything nice and clean.
Boys basketball will be hosting the Cavaliers while the girls are on the road, tipping off against Carman Ainsworth at 7 pm. In their 2021 matchup, the Cards came away with a 6 point win in a tight contest.
Wednesday
After a strong stretch of meets, the cheer squad has the SVL finals coming up, with that time TBA. They’ll be making a road trip to Midland for that competition.
The hockey squad will get their two-game road stretch going, starting by heading to Utica Eisenhower for a 7 pm faceoff. They’re coming off a tight 3-4 loss against Saginaw Swan Valley over the weekend, looking to turn a 5 game losing streak around.
Thursday
The boys swim team will be right back at it, hitting the Kearsley pools for a tri-meet with the Hornets and the Brandon Blackhawks. They’ll dive into the competition at 6 pm.
Friday
The end of a snow-filled week is even more filled up with Cardinal sports.
Girls bowling will get a two-day road stretch going with an away meet in Lapeer. They’ll hit the lanes at 5:30.
Hockey will take on their second of 3 opponents this week, heading to Saginaw to play the FNV Griffen squad at 7 pm.
The basketball squads will both be matched up with Oiler squads, with the guys taking a long trip to Mt. Pleasant while the girls are hosting them. Both games tip-off at 7pm.
Saturday
After a massive nailbiting win against DCC last Friday, the wrestling squad is back at it this Saturday, hosting an invitational here at DHS with a time TBA.
The boys and girls bowling squads are heading to Monitor Lanes for a 1pm matchup. The reigning SVL champs will be competing in the SVL Finals.
To round out the week, the Hockey squad is heading right back out for game number three, closing things out with Manistee at 2 pm.
