Earth Week is about appreciating and giving back to the environment. Here at DHS, the Environmental Club is hosting a spirit week to celebrate!
Spirit Days (4/22/24-4/26/24):
Monday: Green Day (wear green)
Tuesday: Tree Hugger
Wednesday: Water Wednesday (wear blue), use a reusable bottle
Thursday: Thrift Thursday (wear thrifted clothes)
Friday: Safari/Animal Print
The Environmental Club was created in the Fall of the 2021 school year from the idea of multiple passionate students, Ms. Ruggiero during her first year at DHS helped push the idea into becoming an official club. Since then the club has created a recycling program throughout DHS with the students themselves running it. As well as creating an outdoor garden outside door 4. The Environmental Club reaches further than just DHS though, the club has created opportunities for students to go out to the Flint River and test the health of the river, made fundraising opportunities while selling tree saplings to community members, and brought the “Salmon in the Classroom” program to DHS to raise Chinook Salmon and release them in the Flint River in hopes of repopulating the River.
They have helped DHS to become an Evergreen School. This means they have completed at least 20 Stewardship Activities. If you want to help the environment too, you can see Ms. Ruggiero in room 344 and Mr. Kelsey in room 240 for information on how to join the club and get involved.
